Wellcome Early-Career Awards

About this program

Wellcome offers Early-Career Awards to researchers from any discipline developing innovative projects that advance understanding of human life, health, and wellbeing, with funding for the applicant’s salary and up to £400,000 in research expenses, usually over five years. Applications are accepted year-round with no deadline. Applicants must demonstrate independent research capability through a completed PhD (with viva passed by submission) or at least four years of equivalent research experience, normally with no more than three years of postdoctoral experience. Lead applicants must be based at an eligible not-for-profit organisation in the UK, Republic of Ireland, or an eligible low- or middle-income country, contribute at least 80% of their research time to the award, and identify a sponsor and mentor.
