Women's and Independent Folklorists' Sections Annual Meeting Award

The American Folklore Society’s Independent Folklorists’ and Women’s Sections offer a $1,250 Annual Meeting Award to support transportation, registration, lodging, and per diem costs for an independent folklorist working on women’s issues to attend and present at the AFS Annual Meeting. Applicants must live at least 100 miles from the meeting site, earn a significant portion of their income through independent consulting or scholarly work, and have a proposal accepted for the meeting. Recipients must attend at least two full meeting days, participate in both sections’ business meetings, present new work, and serve on the selection committee the following year; applicants may not have received an Independent Travel Award in the past two years. Applications are due June 15 through the AFS portal and must include a narrative application, budget, and current résumé or CV.
