WSM Student Research Grant

About this program

The Western Society of Malacologists offers Student Research Grants of up to $1,000 to support direct research expenses (field and laboratory equipment, supplies, photographic and microscopy fees, computing time, and reasonable travel) for student-led malacology projects. Full-time undergraduate and graduate students worldwide are eligible; funded projects must focus primarily on the systematics, biology, ecology, physiology, biochemistry, or paleontology of marine, terrestrial, or freshwater mollusks in western North America, with cultural, sustainability, or conservation studies also appropriate. Applications must be submitted as a single PDF (lastname.firstname.WSMSTUDENT.pdf) emailed to casey.richart@oregonstate.edu with subject "WSM Student Grant: Name of Applicant" and include a cover page, a two-page proposal, budget, CV, list of other/current grants, and an advisor recommendation letter sent separately. Completed applications are due by March 1; awardees are encouraged to present at a subsequent WSM meeting and abstracts are published in the WSM Annual Report.
