About this program

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) offers the ICAR fellowship to support research on the natural selection of chemical elements during the coevolution of life and environment on early Earth, with a focus on metal use in the biological nitrogen cycle. The MUSE team integrates geochemistry, geobiology, paleogenetics, experimental evolution, and artificial biology to address gaps in understanding the evolution of metal requirements in nitrogen fixation. Eligibility is open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, foreign nationals eligible for J-1 visa status, and applicants for LPR, asylees, or refugees with valid documentation. Selected fellows are expected to attend astrobiology conferences using provided travel funds.
