The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) offers a fellowship opportunity to advance impact monitoring of small bodies, aligning with its planetary defense objectives. Research will focus on enhancing observation weighting schemes, modernizing short-term impact monitoring, and refining long-term predictions through improved error modeling and encounter clustering. Eligible applicants include U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, foreign nationals eligible for J-1 visa status, and certain asylees or refugees with valid documentation, excluding citizens from designated countries unless they are U.S. legal permanent residents. Applicants should possess strong backgrounds in orbital dynamics, statistical methods, and/or observational astronomy, with proficiency in FORTRAN, perl, and python highly preferred.
