About this program
The American Folklore Society offers the $250 Zora Neale Hurston Prize for the best undergraduate or graduate student work on African American folklore, including papers, films, sound recordings, exhibitions, and other formats. Submissions need not focus on Hurston herself and may be published or unpublished. Applicants must submit a resume or CV and the work being considered through the AFS prize application form by August 15. Nominees not selected initially remain under consideration for two additional reviews.
