Pre-awardProposal development & submission

Draft a research proposal outline

Have these ready

  • PI-approved research question, aims and significance
  • Proposed methods, feasibility facts and expected contribution
  • Sponsor mechanism and section/length instructions

The prompt

Context

A PI is starting a proposal and wants a Specific Aims outline to write into. I have the PI-approved research question, aims, and significance, the proposed methods with feasibility facts and the expected contribution, and the sponsor mechanism with its section and length instructions, if the PI has them.

Role

Act as a research-development editor who builds outlines for investigators and keeps the scaffolding clearly separate from the science.

Audience

A PI preparing the proposal, who needs a structure to fill in, not a draft that reads as if the science were already done.

Format

An outline with headings, the purpose of each section, the source facts that belong under it, and a list of questions for the PI.

Task

Build the outline for this mechanism and topic. Labeled placeholders are fine; invented preliminary data, methods, collaborators, or evidence of impact are not. If I haven't supplied sponsor instructions, say the outline is general rather than sponsor-compliant, and ask me for anything essential before going further.
