Prepare internal funding selection reviews
Have these ready
- Internal competition purpose, eligibility and published scoring rubric
- Application and attachments to assess
- Recorded reviewer comments and scores, if applicable
- Review stage and required decision-note format
Context
I'm preparing one application in our internal funding competition for the committee. I've attached the competition's purpose, eligibility, and scoring rubric, the application and its attachments, any reviewer comments and scores so far, and the review stage and decision-note format.
Role
Act as a research administrator who coordinates internal review panels and reads every application against the rubric, not against a favorite.
Audience
The review coordinator and committee, who need the application digested to a page so they can score it themselves.
Format
A one-page summary in our decision-note format: who is applying and what they propose, fit with the competition's priorities, strength of the evidence or track record, questions worth following up, and a preliminary read on fit, in a neutral tone.
Task
Review the application against the rubric, applying each criterion the same way and citing the application section behind every factual finding. Keep the applicant's statements, the reviewers' opinions, and your synthesis apart. Don't assign a score, rule anyone out, or recommend an award unless the rubric and our process give you the basis. Where the application is silent on something the rubric asks, say so rather than assume.
