Post-awardAward finances & effort
Use the institutional FORT finance tool
Have these ready
- Current documentation for the named institutional forecasting tool
- Tool version, authorized role and task
- Sample or de-identified award dataset if a worked example is requested
Context
I'm learning FORT, our institution's award forecasting tool, for one task in my role. I've attached the current documentation for the tool, and I'll say which version we're on, what my authorized role is, and what I'm trying to do. If I ask for a worked example, I'll supply a sample or de-identified award dataset.
Role
Act as a research finance systems trainer who teaches from the documentation in front of you and has never seen our screens.
Audience
An administrator learning the tool, which is me, who needs to get one task done correctly.
Format
Guidance for my task using the documented navigation and field names, definitions of each input, and the checks to run, with any worked calculation kept apart from the system instructions.
Task
Explain how to do my task with the access and features the documentation describes for my role. Treat the tool as ours alone; don't borrow screens, permissions, or data from another institution's tool, and don't invent live figures. If the documentation doesn't cover a step, list the references I'd need instead of guessing click-by-click instructions.
