AAO Full-Time Faculty Fellowship Program

About this program

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) offers the Full‑Time Faculty Fellowship providing two years of support ($30,000/year; $60,000 total) to reduce student debt and support orthodontic residents and junior faculty entering academic orthodontic careers by covering tuition and/or living expenses. Eligible applicants are orthodontic residents or junior faculty in U.S. and Canadian CODA‑accredited orthodontic graduate programs who are AAO members and meet award‑category post‑completion windows; up to three fellowships may be awarded annually. Fellows must complete two years of fellowship service and then an equal number of years of full‑time orthodontic teaching at a CODA‑accredited U.S. or Canadian institution (no concurrent teaching), secure an institutional letter of support committing oversight and teaching practicums (or complete four specified education courses if not pursuing a formal education degree), and sign a conditional promissory note requiring repayment plus a 12% penalty if the teaching commitment is not fulfilled.
