AAS International Travel Grants (NSF-funded)

About this program

The AAS administers an NSF-funded International Travel Grant program that provides airfare support for US-based researchers to attend international science meetings and, in IAU General Assembly years, travel to the GA and associated symposia (IAU membership is not required). Applications are accepted twice yearly—May 1 for travel occurring 1 June–1 November and September 1 for travel occurring 1 November–1 June—with occasional interim proposals reviewed at the AAS Executive Officer's discretion. Applicants must be employed at a US institution (AAS membership not required); priority is given to early-career scientists, those at smaller institutions or from underserved populations, and individuals whose participation enhances US visibility, while undergraduate awards are rare and students must have advisor approval. Awards cover airfare only and have restrictions (use US-flag carriers whenever possible, direct US–meeting travel only, no ancillary fees), recipients must submit a final report and receipts, and AAS/AAS Division meetings are ineligible; note NSF treats Puerto Rico as a qualifying location.
