AFS Gerald L. Davis Grants

About this program

The American Folklore Society, in partnership with its Cultural Diversity Committee, offers Gerald L. Davis Grants of $500–$2,000 to support community-driven projects that foster diversity, inclusion, affirmation, and community development in folklore. Applicants may pursue the Presence Pathway for travel and participation in the AFS Annual Meeting, which includes registration fee waivers and mentorship, or the Project Pathway for community scholarship projects; collaborative proposals may receive increased support. Eligible applicants include graduate students, community scholars, public folklore staff, and others working with communities. Applications require a brief CV or biography, a statement describing the proposed attendance or project and its community impact, and an estimated budget; deadlines are May 1 for Project Pathway and August 1 for Presence Pathway.
