About this program

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute’s Mortality & Longevity Strategic Research Program invites submissions to its AI & Individual Life Insurance Challenge, which examines how artificial intelligence can improve analysis of individual life insurance data and inform pricing, valuation, and risk management. The challenge offers $22,500 in awards: $10,000 for first place, $7,500 for second, and $5,000 for third. Open to academic researchers, industry practitioners, AI specialists, students, and interdisciplinary teams, submissions must apply and justify AI methods using the designated public dataset and address interpretability, practical value, and actuarial implications. Entries must be in English and include a 3,000–6,000-word report, visual exhibits, a 1–2-page practitioner summary, and reproducible code or documentation; submissions are due January 31.
