The Alpha-1 Foundation’s 2026–2027 In‑Cycle Grants Award Program supports meritorious basic, clinical, and ELSI research to improve the health of individuals with alpha‑1 antitrypsin deficiency and advance toward a cure. Multiple mechanisms are offered, including John W. Walsh Career Development (up to $100,000/year for 3 years), Research Grants (up to $100,000/year for 2 years; two‑PI/team proposals permitted), Pilot/Clinical Pilot and Postdoctoral Fellowships (typically up to $75,000; postdoc up to $75,000/year for 2 years), plus meeting sponsorships and travel grants. Eligible applicants are investigators conducting AATD‑relevant research, including early‑career investigators and postdoctoral fellows; a Letter of Intent is required by September 25, 2026, invited full proposals are due February 12, 2027, and all submissions must be made via ProposalCentral. Pharmaceutical companies, biotech, and other industry entities may not apply or serve as collaborators for in‑cycle grants; investigators with large clinical projects should contact the Grants Administration Manager about annual Out‑of‑Cycle Grants.
