ANZSCDB Emerging Leader Award

About this program

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology (ANZSCDB) offers the Emerging Leader Award to support and recognise emerging independent investigators in cell and developmental biology in Australia and New Zealand, with selection weighted toward scientific achievement (40%), leadership/engagement/mentorship (40%) and national/international profile (20%). The winner receives a certificate and trophy, an invitation to give a talk at a future Society meeting, and reimbursement of travel costs up to AUD 1,500. Applicants must have held an independent position for no more than 10 years full‑time equivalent at close of nomination and be a financial ANZSCDB member for at least one year; candidates may self‑nominate or be nominated by any financial member. Applications require a two‑page statement addressing the selection criteria, a half‑page statement on opportunity/career interruptions and FTE, a list of up to five significant post‑independence publications with annotations and role descriptions, and a full CV; assessment is judged relative to opportunity taking account of career breaks, part‑time work, teaching/administrative duties and COVID‑19 impacts.
