AOFAS Research Grants Program

About this program

Offered by the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation in partnership with the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, the AOFAS Research Grants Program provides one-year funding to support foot and ankle research that advances patient care. Grants are available as Pilot Project Grants (up to $5,000), Small Project Research Grants (up to $20,000, including an Early Career Award), Established Project Research Grants (up to $50,000), and a Resident Award; new AOFAS first-time grantees receive an additional 10% on their grant score. Either the principal investigator or a co-investigator must be an AOFAS member in good standing (Active, Candidate, International, or Associate); orthopaedic MD/DO residents may apply for the Resident Award with a named AOFAS mentor as the CI, and allied health/basic science applicants must apply with an eligible AOFAS member as PI or co‑investigator. Applications are reviewed competitively using a blinded NIH‑style process with recusal for conflicts; Early Career applicants must be less than 10 years out of fellowship and Established Project proposals must include preliminary data demonstrating feasibility.
