About this program

The Asia Pacific American Religions Research Initiative (APARRI) Research Grant at UC Berkeley funds interdisciplinary scholarship that advances scholarly and public knowledge of Asian Pacific American religions, with priority for comparative or inter-religious/racial/ethnic approaches, projects on underrepresented groups (e.g., Pacific Islanders, South Asian Americans, Sikhs, Hindus), and proposals from junior scholars. Grants support scholarly outputs such as monographs, articles, dissertations, digital projects, and critical editions, and award amounts are up to $25,000 for full-time faculty/lecturers and up to $10,000 for graduate students, postdocs, independent scholars, and part-time faculty (most awards fall between $5,000–$15,000). Applicants must hold a doctorate or be doctoral students and not have received a prior APARRI Research Grant; applications are submitted online with a proposal, CV, budget, and a polished writing sample, and awardees are required to participate in at least one APARRI conference and expend funds by May 15, 2026.
