About this program

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the New-York Historical Society offer two predoctoral awards supporting Ph.D. students with strong interests in women’s and public history; awardees serve as part-time research associates in the Center for Women’s History, assisting with exhibition development, educational curriculum, public programs, writing, and collections while receiving cross-disciplinary mentorship. Fellowships are part-time in residence for the 2026–27 academic year (Sept 9, 2026–Aug 27, 2027), provide a $25,000 stipend, and do not include full-time employment benefits. Applicants must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a relevant humanities Ph.D. program; applications via Interfolio require a 2–3 page public-history project statement, CV, unofficial transcript, a short writing sample (≤3,000 words/10 pages), and three letters of recommendation.
