APS Innovation Fund (2025 theme: Capacity Building for Education and Careers in Climate Science)

About this program

The American Physical Society’s Innovation Fund provides pilot or supplemental grants to APS members to launch innovative projects that address challenges in the physics community and advance APS’s mission; the 2025 theme focuses on capacity building for education and careers in climate science, emphasizing expanded access, deeper knowledge, and physics’ role in climate science. Up to five awards of $50,000 each are available for project periods up to 18 months; indirect costs are capped at 5% and the total requested budget including overhead must not exceed $50,000, with funds issued to the PI’s institution on a reimbursement basis. Applicants must be APS members; PIs may be U.S.-based or international at any career stage, and up to two optional co‑PIs are allowed. Students, postdocs, or other trainees must include a letter of support from an advisor or department, and projects should align with the 2025 theme and are encouraged to involve collaborative partnerships among APS members, units, committees, and staff.
