APSA Congressional Fellowship Program

About this program

The American Political Science Association (APSA) sponsors the Congressional Fellowship Program, which funds year‑long placements in the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and other congressional offices to provide firsthand experience of Congress and policymaking, complemented by an intensive orientation and ongoing enrichment activities. The program runs roughly November–August, with placements beginning in December/January and including seminars, a congressional district trip, and alumni programming. Eligible applicants include political scientists, journalists, and telecommunications scholars recruited or sponsored by APSA, U.S. federal executive employees sponsored by their home agencies, and other professionals sponsored by partner organizations; specific qualifications and application procedures vary by fellowship category. Prospective applicants should complete the APSA interest form to receive notifications when the 2027–2028 application opens and should expect to secure placements by interviewing with congressional offices and committees.
