ASAB Christopher Barnard Award for Outstanding Contributions by a New Investigator

About this program

The Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) annually awards the Christopher Barnard Award to an outstanding new investigator in animal behaviour, providing a research grant (stated as a31000) and expecting the recipient to give a keynote/plenary talk at the ASAB Easter Meeting with meeting expenses paid. Applicants must be within seven years of their PhD (allowing for career breaks and part-time work) and have spent at least part of their career within the ASAB geographic catchment area. Nominations may be made by ASAB members or by self-nomination and must include the ASAB nomination form, a full CV, three referees’ letters, and a nominator’s statement (up to 300 words). Nominations are accepted year-round and considered for up to three consecutive years, with the stated deadline for each award cycle being 1 December of the previous year (e.g., 2025-12-01 for the 2026 award); contact the Secretary of ASAB Council via the ASAB website to submit or inquire.
