ASCA Research Grants — funding for research on school counseling effectiveness

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) funds ASCA Research Grants to support empirical studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of school counselors and school counseling programs in improving student outcomes; ASCA has awarded over $160,000 through the program since 2017 and the next call is tentatively slated for Q1 2026. Projects are selected by a panel of reviewers and examples of previously funded research are available from ASCA. Applicants must be affiliated with an accredited, nonprofit degree-granting university or a nonprofit research institution based in the United States; doctoral students are eligible to apply. Institutions must have the knowledge, resources, and skills to perform the proposed research, applicants (and their relatives) may not be ASCA board members, staff, or grant-selection committee members, and incomplete proposals or requests exceeding the program’s unspecified maximum award will be excluded.
