ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant Program

About this program

The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) offers dissertation research grants of up to $6,000 to support doctoral fieldwork in Eastern Europe and Eurasia across disciplines, including specialized awards in areas such as gender studies, Russian, Ukrainian, environmental, folklore, and historical studies. Funds must support research-related expenses outside the United States and may not be used for home-institution tuition or fees; applications are due March 20.

Applicants may be graduate students of any citizenship enrolled in a U.S. PhD program (or a U.S. or Canadian program for the Bailey grant), must have reached candidacy, possess appropriate language skills, hold ASEEES student membership, and plan to begin travel by January 31 of the following year. Applicants may receive only one ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant and cannot have received certain major fellowships or the ASEEES Summer Dissertation Writing Grant for the same project.
