Atiyah UK-Lebanon Fellowships

The London Mathematical Society, in partnership with the Centre for Advanced Mathematical Sciences at the American University of Beirut, offers the Atiyah UK–Lebanon Fellowships to fund short-term research and teaching visits in the mathematical sciences between the UK and Lebanon, supporting UK-based mathematicians to visit Lebanon (1 week–6 months, ideally 3–6 months) and Lebanese mathematicians (advanced MSc/PhD level or above) to visit the UK for up to 12 months. LMS provides up to £2,000 for travel and up to £2,200 per month for accommodation and subsistence (allocated maximum £6,600; maximum total from LMS £8,600), with possible additional support from CAMS and payments for agreed teaching; selection emphasises mathematical excellence or promise and likely productive interactions with the host. Eligibility requires UK→Lebanon applicants to hold a post in the UK or demonstrate strong UK links and to deliver lectures/courses and engage Lebanese institutions; Lebanon→UK applicants must show a strong connection to Lebanon and secure a UK host who provides office/computing facilities and a Head of Department statement, with at least two referees and the host required to email supporting letters directly. Applicants submit an application form, cover letter (max 2 pages), CV (max 4 pages) and publication list; applications are normally on an annual cycle (opening September, closing January) but are currently paused due to FCDO travel advice, and successful fellows must arrange visas/travel, retain travel receipts, and submit a brief report.
