About this program

BDSRA Australia’s Batten Disease Global Research Initiative (BDGRI) funds competitive research worldwide to advance understanding and treatment of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (Batten disease), having invested over AUD 1,000,000 since 1995 (including >AUD 400,000 in the past five years); individual award amounts and current funding levels are not specified. The open grant program targets high-impact studies that address unmet needs identified in the 2024 Research Priority Setting Partnership. Eligible applicants are researchers or research teams worldwide, and proposed projects must align with the Priority questions. Priority areas include gene-targeted therapies and acceleration, biomarkers for diagnosis/prognosis/treatment response, multisystem impacts and early diagnosis (including newborn screening), interventions to maintain function or halt/reverse progression, translational work and optimal clinical trial design.
