Business research funding is small in count and large in award size, the opposite of most hubs here. The median award is $50,000, the highest of any discipline on the site.
The reason is that much of what lands here is economic development money rather than academic research money. The Maryland Technology Development Corporation, known as TEDCO, runs several programs aimed at commercializing university research, and state commerce departments run similar ones. Those are real funding for academics, but they fund translation and company formation rather than papers, and they carry reporting obligations that look nothing like a grant.

The academic side is led by the American Accounting Association, the American Marketing Association, the Strategy Research Foundation and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which funds entrepreneurship research at a scale no one else matches.
