About this program
The Foundation for Community Association Research offers the Byron Hanke Fellowship to support graduate research on the development, management, and governance of community associations and common-interest communities. Awards range from $3,000 to $5,000 over one year, with applications for the 2027 fellowship due May 1, 2027. Applicants must be enrolled throughout the application and research periods in a master’s, doctoral, or legal program at an accredited institution in the United States or Canada, and their project must be approved by a faculty adviser and conducted as part of their graduate studies. Fellows must complete an original, substantive research paper or thesis addressing a relevant or priority topic and make it available to the Foundation for potential publication.
