About this program

The California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP) Cycle 32 (2025–2026) solicits proposals to prevent and eliminate breast cancer by funding a balanced portfolio of program-directed and investigator-initiated research, fellowships, high‑risk IDEA awards, Community Research Collaboration (CRC) planning/pilot/full projects, conference awards, program-directed and policy initiatives, and trainee supplements to be conducted primarily in California. Award caps and durations vary by mechanism — for example, Bridge Funding up to $25,000 (12 months) for fellows whose federal award was terminated in 2025; Predoctoral Fellowships up to $60,000/year (up to 2 years) and Postdoctoral Fellowships up to $70,000/year (up to 2 years); IDEA awards up to $150,000 (12 months) or $200,000 (18 months with human/animal subjects); CRC Pilot $200,000 (18 months) and CRC Full $600,000 (3 years) — with LOIs and full applications submitted via SmartSimple and most awards starting August 1, 2026. Eligible applicants and principal investigators must be California-based and conduct research primarily in California (PI primary residence in CA), applications must include involvement of California-based advocates, fellowships have specific enrollment/employment and FTE requirements, UC investigators must submit through campus contracts and grants offices, and IRB/IACUC and other administrative approvals are required prior to award.
