About this program
The California Healing Initiative (CHI), administered by the California Psychological Association Foundation, awards annual $5,000 grants to individuals, groups, and organizations in California that deliver community-based programs to prevent, reduce, or ameliorate inner-city violence with an emphasis on psychological healing (e.g., trauma amelioration, reconciliation, forgiveness). Awards are disbursed as $4,500 initially and $500 upon receipt of a final report, and are intended to support or enhance existing programs, services, or initiatives addressing violence. Eligible applicants are California-based individuals, groups, or organizations; submission requires an electronic letter of interest and a proposal (no formal form) not to exceed 10 pages that includes organizational/contact information, project purpose and goals, target population and area, work plan and detailed budget, personnel qualifications, and evaluation/outcome measures (printed or public materials may be submitted separately and do not count toward the page limit). The Foundation is revising application materials and deadlines, so prospective applicants should check CHI’s website for current instructions and timelines.
