CAMWS Excavation and Field School Awards

About this program

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) funds Excavation and Field School Awards to subsidize attendance at Greco‑Roman summer excavations and field schools, with award payments sent directly to the named school/program. Eligible applicants are students and teachers applying to a Greco‑Roman field site (not limited to modern Italy or Greece) and must submit both the CAMWS online application and a separate application to the chosen field school. Required materials include current CAMWS membership confirmation, contact and academic background, a personal statement (up to 600 words), verification of field‑school application, a formal headshot for promotion, two letters of recommendation, and other specified files; incomplete submissions may not be seriously considered. Applicants may not accept a CAMWS award if combined awards would exceed the cost of the field school, and all materials must be received by the stated January 30 deadline; inquiries and supplementary materials go to camws@camws.org.
