CANS/SNRS Dissertation Research Grant Award

About this program

The Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS) and the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) offer the CANS/SNRS Dissertation Research Grant Award to support dissertation research that advances nursing science and practice for doctoral students in research-focused nursing programs in the Southern region, providing awards up to $5,000 (annual application due September 1; recipients notified by December 1). Submissions are electronic only via the Catalyst system with a $25 student application fee and must include a face sheet, project narrative (items 2–6 limited to five pages), 200‑word abstract, specific aims, background/significance, research design, sampling/measures, data collection/analysis plan, limitations, human/animal protections, appendices, references (limit six pages), a 12‑month timeline, and a one‑page itemized budget (indirect costs not provided). Applicants must be current SNRS members (student or regular) and current CANS members, enrolled in a Southern School/College of Nursing doctoral program, and have a successfully defended dissertation proposal. Required attachments include a dissertation adviser letter verifying enrollment, defended proposal and institutional support, a project site environment/support letter, biosketches (SF424 R&R format), and research tools as applicable; funds may not be used for investigator salaries, travel, tuition/registration, or construction (research assistant stipend and capital items up to $250 each are allowable).
