Cardiac Surgical Resident Investigator Award

About this program

The American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Foundation offers the Cardiac Surgical Resident Investigator Award to support cardiac surgical residents in conducting clinical and translational research under the mentorship of established investigators. Funding of up to $40,000 annually for two years covers salary, research supplies, travel, and academic expenses, with the second year contingent on progress. Eligible applicants are cardiac surgical residents in an I6 program or general surgery residents pursuing a cardiothoracic surgery specialization in the U.S. or Canada, who must be engaged in research with an active AATS member mentor. Applications require a detailed research plan, mentor support letters, and other specified documents, with a letter of intent due by December 1, 2025, and the full application by December 2, 2025.
