The Carter G. Woodson Institute at the University of Virginia offers two‑year residential pre‑doctoral and post‑doctoral fellowships for scholars in the humanities and social sciences working in African, African‑American, and related studies to support completion of dissertations or book manuscripts and to foster interdisciplinary intellectual exchange. Pre‑doctoral fellows are advanced PhD candidates completing dissertations; post‑doctoral fellows are newly minted PhDs who take residence (post‑docs typically housed in Minor Hall Annex) and are expected to teach one upper‑division seminar per year in the Africana Studies Program while finishing a manuscript. Applicants should have research substantially completed, meet the appropriate degree stage (advanced PhD student or recent PhD), and submit applications by December 1 at 11:59 PM EST; late applications are not accepted.
