Cashner Award

About this program

The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists (ASIH) Cashner Award, administered by ASIH’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, provides tailored professional development, mentorship, networking, one year of ASIH membership, and a $1,000 prize to help cover registration, travel, or lodging for the annual Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists; ten student awards and one postdoc award are offered. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students or postdoctoral researchers who identify as members of historically or currently excluded groups in STEM (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, first-generation college students, people with disabilities) and demonstrate commitment to a career studying or managing fishes, amphibians, and/or reptiles. Applications require submission of an application form plus an advisor confirmation form, awardees are selected by lottery after eligibility review, and the announcement lists a March 20 (11:59 PM) deadline and attendance at the Joint Meeting as requirements.
