Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Grants

About this program

Cheng & Tsui Publishers, administered by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), offers a $500 Professional Development Grant to K–16 Japanese language teachers to support attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, in‑service learning experiences, or mentor collaboration focused on pedagogy (textbook purchases are not allowed). Applicants must be current AATJ members—especially encouraged for teachers new to the field—and eligible applicants include K–12, community college, and university instructors. Required materials are a completed application form describing proposed use of funds with the requested amount and budget and an uploaded current CV (applications are due September 1); recipients must use funds as proposed and submit a brief report after the activity. Applications are reviewed by an independent AATJ-selected panel; applicants may also apply to the Oka Professional Development Fund but may receive only one award for attendance at a single conference.
