Clara Mayo Grants for Masters' Theses and Pre-Dissertation Research on Sexism, Racism, or Prejudice

About this program

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) Clara Mayo Memorial Fund awards Clara Mayo Grants to support master's theses and pre‑dissertation research on sexism, racism, or prejudice, funding up to six awards per cycle of up to $1,000 each; proposals that secure institutional matching are favored but not required. Preference is given to students in terminal master’s programs and to projects applying theory or designing interventions/treatments. Eligible applicants must be SPSSI members matriculated in graduate programs in psychology, applied social science, or related disciplines and must submit an online application with a faculty advisor’s recommendation certifying thesis/pre‑dissertation status; students who apply for a Grants‑In‑Aid in the same award year are ineligible and only one Clara Mayo application is allowed per calendar year. Deadlines are May 15 (winners announced by July 15) and October 15 (winners announced by December 15); late applications may be held for the next round.
