About this program

Clif Family Foundation offers Open Call and By-Invitation grants to support nonprofit work advancing its priorities—regenerative and organic farming, food production workers’ health and safety, climate justice, healthy food access, inclusive outdoor access, and pollution prevention. Open Call grants fund general operating costs (typical awards $5,000–$50,000 for one year), are reviewed twice yearly with March 1 and August 1 deadlines, and decisions are announced about four months after each deadline. Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations or fiscally sponsored by one, focus primarily in the United States or its territories, demonstrate strong community ties, operate at the grassroots level, and typically have operating budgets under $8 million. The Foundation excludes funding for capital construction, faith-based organizations, individuals, government agencies, most food banks (unless engaged in systemic change), endowments, deficit funding, media projects, sponsorships, and similar categories.
