Cliff Kuhn Postsecondary Teaching Award

About this program

The Oral History Association offers the Cliff Kuhn Postsecondary Teaching Award, presented biennially in even-numbered years to recognize a distinguished postsecondary educator who has exemplary integrated oral history into classroom teaching; the award includes a plaque, one-year OHA membership, $500, and complimentary registration to OHA’s annual meeting (next awarded at the 2026 meeting). Eligible nominees are postsecondary educators (undergraduate, graduate, continuing, or professional education) and may be nominated by themselves or by colleagues, students, administrators, or community members. Selection criteria require demonstration of innovative or successfully implemented oral history pedagogy that serves as a model, familiarity with oral history scholarship, adherence to standards for research and preservation, and a civic or community component. Nominations must include a 2–3 page statement of philosophy and project details, supporting materials (syllabi, assignments, transcripts, publications, media, etc.), a nominating/supporting letter, and the educator’s CV/resume; inquiries may be directed to Committee Chair Amanda Tewes (aet10@stmarys-ca.edu).
