Clinician Scientist Development Award (mentored clinical research support for early-career physician faculty in Friedreich's ataxia)

Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) offers the Clinician Scientist Development Award to provide mentored clinical and translational research funding that gives protected research time to early-career physician faculty pursuing clinician‑scientist careers focused on Friedreich's ataxia. The award provides $100,000 per year in direct costs for up to two years to support salary and research project expenses for patient‑oriented or translational studies (e.g., natural history, clinical trials, biomarkers, outcome assessment), and proposals incorporating formal training such as an MSCI or MPH are encouraged. Eligible applicants are physicians (MD or MD/PhD or equivalent) who completed residency no more than seven years before the award start, must commit at least 50% effort, be mentored by an established FA expert, and submit mentor letter(s), a joint mentoring plan, and a department chair letter confirming ≥50% protected time; current PIs of individual mentored training grants or current/former PIs of NIH R‑level or equivalent grants are ineligible.
