About this program

The Coherent/II-VI Foundation’s Block-Gift Program supports graduate-level research and student education in optics, lasers and photonics, optical communications, quantum technologies, and ultrawide-bandgap semiconductors. Institutional awards generally range from $95,000 to $110,000 annually, are provided as unrestricted gifts without overhead, and emphasize materials, processing, and novel device research. Projects must involve at least two graduate students, prioritize student education, preserve intellectual property rights with the research institution, and encourage publication of results. Proposals are accepted by invitation only; interested institutions must follow the consideration procedure and submit an inquiry form.
