David J. Sugarbaker Surgical Resident Investigator Award

The American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Foundation offers the David J. Sugarbaker Surgical Resident Investigator Award to support surgical residents conducting cancer research, particularly in thoracic surgical oncology with a focus on mesothelioma and lung cancer. This award provides up to $40,000 annually for two years, contingent on progress, to fund research activities under the guidance of an established AATS member mentor. Eligibility is limited to residents or fellows enrolled in accredited U.S. or Canadian training programs with at least two years of postgraduate surgical training, who are actively engaged in thoracic surgical oncology research. Applicants must submit a detailed research plan, mentor support letters, and a budget to be considered for this mentored research grant.
