Distinguished Service Award

About this program

The Society of American Archivists Foundation presents the Distinguished Service Award to archival institutions, archival education programs, nonprofit or government organizations, or records centers that have delivered outstanding public service and made exemplary contributions to archival theory, practice, or long-term program development; recipients receive a commemorative plaque. Selection is made annually by the Distinguished Service Award Subcommittee of the SAA Awards Committee and recognizes innovations in methods, exceptional service to constituencies, performance beyond expectations, or sustained programmatic depth and scope. Eligible nominees are organizations or programs serving the North American archives community, and self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. Nominations must include a completed form and three letters of support (at least two from SAA members representing different institutions) and are due by February 28 each year.
