Doc Brown Futures Award

About this program

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) offers the Doc Brown Futures Award, established in 2018 and endowed by Robert “Doc” Brown, to recognize early-career members who show excellence in contributions to AAPT and physics education and demonstrate potential for AAPT leadership. Recipients receive a $1,000 prize, a commemorative plaque, complimentary registration to an AAPT National Meeting with two nights’ lodging, reimbursement for reasonable travel to the AAPT Summer Meeting, and mentorship plus an opportunity to serve on a committee or task force. Applicants must be current AAPT members for at least three years and qualify as “early career” (no more than seven years full-time in the profession of physics education at the time of nomination); nominations—self-nominations accepted—should document the candidate’s AAPT involvement, leadership, and scholarship.
