Don Yoder Prize for the Best Graduate Student Paper in Folk Belief or Religious Folklife

About this program

The Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section of the American Folklore Society awards the annual Don Yoder Prize, a $500 honorarium for the best graduate student paper on a topic in folk belief or religious folklife. Eligible papers must be in English, 8–36 pages (double-spaced, 12‑pt font, one‑inch margins), written after January 1 of the previous year, may be published or unpublished, and only one submission per person is allowed; previous winners of the section’s student prizes are ineligible. Submissions must be blind (remove author metadata), follow Journal of American Folklore citation style, and include a cover letter stating when/where the paper was or will be presented or published, a 100‑word biographical statement confirming current graduate status, and a faculty sponsor’s endorsement. Materials (Word or PDF) must be uploaded via the AFS prize application form by the annual July 15 deadline.
