The American Statistical Association offers the annual Douglas A. Zahn Grant for Advancing Interpersonal Excellence, a $2,500 individual award supporting projects that systematically improve the interpersonal skills of statisticians and data scientists. Eligible applicants include statistical consulting course instructors, statistics teachers for non-majors, statistical consulting center directors, professional consultants who influence statisticians outside academia, and full-time students proposing to enhance interpersonal competencies. Selection favors applicants with a documented plan for future activities (empirical approaches such as videos, coaching, or feedback mechanisms preferred) and demonstrated commitment through teaching, coaching, mentoring, consulting, or related work; required materials are a nomination/application letter, one to two supporting letters, a CV, and a proposal (maximum 3 pages), submitted via the ASA online form by March 1. The recipient must submit a progress report within 12 months (about 2,000 words) summarizing work completed, impact, outcomes, and key learnings.
