Early Career Researcher Grant (BSG)

About this program

British Society for Geomorphology (BSG) offers Early Career Researcher Grants of up to £5,000 to pump-prime geomorphological research that supports transition to research independence and leadership; new projects are preferred, though justified extensions of existing work are permitted. Funding can cover field visits, data purchases, equipment and consumables (or equipment rental) but excludes salaries, institutional overheads, bench fees, and conference/publication fees, and all resources—especially subsistence and dating costs—must be fully justified. Eligible applicants are PhD-holding early-career researchers who began their academic career within four years of the closing date and are primarily employed by a higher-education institution or similar (UK or overseas); allowances are made for part‑time work, COVID‑19 impacts, career breaks and time outside HEIs, and applicants not currently employed must demonstrate feasibility. Applications—submitted via a BSG account—must include an environmental statement addressing travel and GHG mitigation, applicants cannot be PI on another BSG grant in the same round, and awards are assessed on research quality, value for money and potential to lead to publications or further funding.
