Echidna Global Scholars Visiting Fellowship

About this program

The Brookings Institution’s Center for Universal Education (CUE) runs the Echidna Global Scholars Program, a six‑month visiting fellowship (with pre‑residency, residency in Washington, D.C., and two‑year post‑residency support) that funds individual research, leadership development, and policy engagement to improve learning outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non‑conforming people in the Global South. Fellows conduct in‑country data collection with virtual workshops, complete a residency for dissemination, capacity building and networking, and receive ongoing strategic support through the Echidna Alumni Network to implement impact plans. Eligible applicants are mid‑career leaders with a Master’s degree or higher, at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in research, NGOs, government or academia, substantive ties to and intent to return to a Global South country, demonstrated understanding of gender and education issues, and proficiency in English. Applications require a cover letter, CV, questionnaire, and a 3–5 page research proposal; the 2026 application cycle is currently closed.
