Elaine J. Lawless Travel Award

About this program

Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section of the American Folklore Society offers the Elaine J. Lawless Travel Award, a stipend of up to $500 to support a graduate student's travel to the AFS annual meeting and to stimulate new work in religious folklife and folk belief. Applicants must be MA/MS or PhD graduate students (domestic or international) and members of the Section (annual dues $10); the award is contingent on acceptance of the applicant’s AFS meeting proposal, funds are disbursed after meeting participation, a student may receive the award only once, and the deadline is June 15. To apply, submit the long and short abstracts you will submit for AFS review, a CV or brief biography, a letter explaining your reasons for presenting and expected impact, a faculty endorsement letter, and an estimated travel budget with the amount requested.
