About this program

The American Folklore Society’s Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section offers the Elaine J. Lawless Travel Award, providing up to $500 for a graduate student to attend and participate in the Society’s annual meeting and support new work in religious folklife and folk belief. International and domestic MA/MS and PhD students are eligible, provided they join AFS and its Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section. Applicants must submit meeting abstracts, a CV or biography, a statement of purpose, faculty support, and estimated travel expenses by June 15; funding is contingent on acceptance to the AFS meeting and may be received only once.
