About this program

The Wenner-Gren Foundation’s Engaged Research Grant provides up to $25,000 for collaborative anthropological research that mutually produces knowledge with community partners, addresses inequality, informs policy, benefits communities, and promotes positive change. Funds may support essential research expenses, participant and community compensation, travel, research assistance, childcare, supplies, and related project costs, but not salary, institutional overhead, or pre-award expenses. Applicants must be doctoral students or PhD holders with a strong connection to anthropology; students and scholars in related fields qualify only through specified anthropology affiliations or appointments. Proposals must demonstrate substantive partner involvement, provide documentary evidence of stakeholder commitment, present a feasible methodology and budget, and identify required ethical approvals and research permits.
